Lincoln City’s Jorge Grant aims to lead the Imps to League One glory

Lincoln City’s answer to Paul Scholes, Jorge Grant, has 15 goal contributions in just 28 appearances this season – as his side sit pretty at the top of England’s third tier.

In an article with Gregor Robertson of The Times, Grant expressed how Manchester United legend Paul Scholes is the player he grew up trying to emulate, as his father is a huge Red Devil.

“He’d be like, Scholes would do this, Scholes would do that,” Grant said. “I think I’m a bit different from him! But there are certain things in his game I try to do: dictate play from midfield, the speed of the game, score goals from outside the box. He’s someone I watched a lot.

The 26-year-old signed for Lincoln for an undisclosed fee in 2019 and put pen to paper last month on a new deal to keep him at Sincil Bank until summer 2023.

Unfortunately for City fans, gaffer Michael Appleton told BBC Radio Lincolnshire that Grant, Anthony Scully and Adam Jackson are all 50/50 to feature against Swindon Town on Tuesday night after picking up knocks at the weekend.

After spending a period of five years from 2011-2016 in Non-League, Lincoln returned to the Football League and enjoyed a fantastic FA Cup run, being eventually knocked out by Arsenal in the quarter-finals.

The Imps are battling for promotion to England’s second tier for the first time since the rebranding of the Football League in 2003 when it became known as the Championship.

Lincoln currently sit one point clear of second-place Peterborough United after 28 games played in League One. City’s Tuesday night showdown against Swindon is vital, who can extend their lead at the top if Plymouth manage to get a result at home to the Posh.

The Robins are coming off the back of a last-gasp win at home to Crewe Alexandra, thanks to super-sub Scott Twine’s 94th-minute winner which lifted his team out of the relegation zone.

Appleton’s men are without a loss in their last four league games and will look to use home soil to their advantage to extend the unbeaten run to five.

New signing Cohen Bramall from Colchester United praised the family nature of the club recently and believes this togetherness is what will guide the team to promotion at the end of the season.

“We’re a really tight group on and off the field. The lads who have been here the whole season have been amazing towards me and the new signings. We’re all a family and a really tight bunch.”

Joe Lyons will be at Sincil Bank on Tuesday night to report on the league leaders and their must-win clash against Swindon Town as we approach the decisive close to the 2020/21 season.
